Rules

  1. 1. One player takes the white pieces in their hand, and the other takes the black ones.
  2. 2. White puts a piece on the playing surface. Black then puts one piece next to the white piece. The game now begins with players alternating turns.
  3. 3. Placing a piece means moving a piece from their hand adjacent to a stack of pieces already placed.
  4. 4. A piece cannot be placed adjacent to a stack of pieces whose topmost piece is their opponent's color.
  5. 5. On their turn, a player must either place a piece from their hand or use one ability of a placed piece of their color.
  6. 6. The Queen Bee must be placed by each player before their fifth piece, but not as their first.
  7. 7. If a player can not legally either place a piece or use a placed piece's ability, they have to pass their turn.
  8. 8. The game ends as soon as a Queen Bee is fully surrounded. The player of its color loses the game.
  9. 9. If both Queen Bees are surrounded at the same time, or if a repetition in the position occurs for the third time, it is a draw.
  10. 10. Using the ability of a piece is only possible if the Queen Bee of their color is placed.
  11. 11. A piece cannot be moved or use its abilities if it was the last piece moved or if it's covered by another.
  12. 12. A piece cannot be moved if removing it would split the already placed pieces into two unconnected groups.
  13. 13. When moved, a piece cannot occupy or pass through a location more than once per turn.
  14. 14. A crawl is done by horizontally sliding a piece to an adjacent empty space. The piece must stay in contact with another one for the entirety of the slide. At the end of the crawl, the piece may fall until hitting the ground or another piece.
  15. 15. A climb is done by raising a piece up an adjacent stack until it is one level higher than the topmost piece of it. Then it must crawl on top of it.
  16. 16. A jump is done by moving a piece over an uninterrupted straight line of at least one stack of pieces to reach an empty space at ground level.
  17. 17. The Queen Bee has the ability to crawl exactly one time.
  18. 18. The Spider has the ability to crawl exactly three times.
  19. 19. The Ant has the ability to crawl any number of times.
  20. 20. The Beetle has the ability to climb or crawl exactly one time.
  21. 21. The Grasshopper has the ability to jump once.
  22. 22. The Mosquito's ability is to copy the ability of any of its adjacent, topmost, non-mosquito, pieces. If the mosquito leaves the ground, its ability is to crawl once or climb once.
  23. 23. The Ladybug has the ability to climb, perform one crawl or climb above ground, and then crawl down to an empty ground space.
  24. 24. The Pillbug has the ability to either crawl once or force an adjacent piece on the ground to climb on the Pillbug, then crawl to an empty space on the ground.
  25. 25. The Dragonfly has the ability to move exactly two spaces: first onto an adjacent stack, then to an adjacent space at any level. This destination must neither be adjacent to, nor in a straight line from, its starting space. When starting atop a stack, it transports the piece directly beneath it if the destination is an empty ground space; otherwise, it moves alone.
